Elephants by Rachael Yamagata

This is from the album Elephants…Teeth Sinking into Heart by Rachael Yamagata. My favourite album from this amazing artist. I prefer this album then Happenstance though. Every single songs from this album is mind blowing amazing. This is a album for heartaches.

The songs lyric just sounded more like poem then a song for me. Especially this song. I do think this song is more about a person who just experiencing a break up and was trying to warn the others about the danger of love. Warning them not to fall in love blindly and do remember the horror and hopelessness love can bring apart from the feeling of euphoric.

I think she is trying to use the animals like elephants, tiger and hawks as a metaphor. Is kinda obvious though through out the entire lyric. For me this is a powerful song, it always evokes a mixture of emotion out of me. Each lines just hits you with such passion and power.

The red words were my interpretation for this song.

If the elephants have past lives, yet are destined to always remember,
it's no wonder how they scream,
like you and I, they must have some temper.
And I am dreaming of them on the plains, dirtying up their beds,
watching for some kind of rain to cool their hot heads.
And how dare that you send me that card when I'm doing all that I can do.
You are forcing me to remember when all I want is to just forget you.
If the tiger shall protect her young, then tell me how did you slip by.
All my instincts have failed me for once -- I must have somehow slept the whole night.

(The persona remember how her heart was hurt before, and have been ever since trying to forget the dying love. Yet somehow, some people believe that after a break up they should remains as friend. Thus, when the persona receive a card or call or be it anything that related to that loved ones it evokes memories about them. She has tried so hard to protect herself from being hurt, yet somehow he still managed to reach for her heart. And all her guard was let down, she falls wholeheartedly with him. )

And I am dreaming of them with their kill, tearing it all apart,
blood dripping from their lips, and teeth sinking into heart.
And how dare that you say you will call, when you know I need some peace of mind..
If you had to take sides with the animals, won't you do it with one who is kind?

(He breaks her heart and it hurt like someone ripping her heart out, biting into it like a carnivore. She just want to be left alone but he keeps pestering her. In other words, for the past two paragraph it shown that  she still deeply has feeling for him and she’s trying to let it go but is very hard and he knows how she still feel for him)

If the hawks in the trees need the dead, if you're living you don't stand a chance.
You can lie there and say you are fed, but there are only two ends to this dance.
You can flee with your wounds just in time, or lie there as he feeds,
watching yourself ripped to shreds and laughing as you bleed.

(She can leave him or stay with him but either choice in the end she still will wound up. )

So for those of you falling in love, keep it kind, keep it good, keep it right.
Throw yourself in the midst of danger, but keep one eye open at night.

(She’s giving advice to the others you can love all you want. Yet do remember to love with cautions. Do not love blindly as keeping an eye open)

Sweet Dream by Greg Laswell

Ok, here is another song by Greg Laswell, Sweet Dream from the album Three Flights from Alto Nido. I have been listening to Greg Laswell albums for the past few days and I told myself I have to blog about this song. I need to.

cover

The album Three Flights From Alto Nido is a sickening album from Greg Laswell. Sickening as in sickening good! All the tracks in this album are worth to listen. And this particular song is wicked! Because I was instantly hooked on it when I first heard it and since had been keep on repeating for days. Not to mention this song is extremely short. Just over 1.10 minute long.

At first I thought I was some sort of midi or a demo of a certain song that Laswell couldn’t finish writing it and decided to add it in the album just for fun. But later on I found out that it is not. This song was complete. He himself commented that he tried to write more versus in but can’t because nothing is good enough for the song.

The lyric is pretty amazing. Short but sweet and heart warming. I can almost feel the warmth of the summer sun in my fluffy bed when I heard the part that sings

“And the morning would be so cruel
When it came
With sunshine and warmth to bring
For announcing the end of my sweet dream
For announcing the end of my sweet dream”

It always gave me this kind of image in my mind that I was fast asleep in my bed and the warmth summer sunlight slip through the curtain and as like the sun is gently kissing me on the cheek. Welcoming a new day in my life as the dandelions were at full blossom.

If I could write out my own dream
For the next time that I sleep
You'd be the first one that I see
And I the last one that you keep
The dream would go on and on
While we sway
Against all things thrown our way
And the morning would be so cruel
When it came
With sunshine and warmth to blame
For announcing the end of my sweet dream
For announcing the end of my sweet dream

Off I Go by Greg Laswell

Anyone who read my blog should by now know that I’m a huge fan of Grey’s Anatomy. I have re-watch the shows over and over again for so many times that I lost track already. For me this is one of the most amazing American shows that I watch. I just can’t describe how much I love this show with word. All I can says is I really really love this show a lot.

Besides, I get to know a lot of artistes, songs from this shows. Most of the songs in this shows were incredible. The production team really make one helluva job with the music. Every time, it just seems like all the songs in the show was custom made to fit that particular scenes. Often time, it touches me. I have cried so many time through  out the entire 5 seasons because it was so sad and so real. And some of the episodes in the show I just felt like I really can connect to it.

And over this 5 seasons, I guess most of the GA fans will agree with me that season 5 finale was the saddest finale. It left me speechless, stunned. The first time I saw it, I just sat there starring at my screen for around 5 seconds after it ends. It totally blew my mind. Especially, the part where the elevator door open and George was standing right there. The music at the back fit that scene 101%! Period.

That particular song was Off I Go by Greg Laswell. As I was saying earlier that I just felt like all the songs was custom made to fit this show. Well, apparently the producer of GA really did requested Laswell to write a song especially for this finale scene. Thus, the birth of this song.

I think I shall post the finale scene below and let you guys watch it. The song only start at 2.34min.

Loose ends, they tangle down
And then take flight
But never tie me down
Never tie me down.

Loose ends, they tangle down
And then take flight
But never tie me down
Never tie me down.

Off I go.
Where I fall
Is where I land.

Off I go.
Where I fall.
Is where I land.

Loose ends tangle down
And then take flight
But never tie us down
And never tie us down.

Loose ends tangle down
And then take flight
But never tie us down
And never tie us down.

Off I go.
Where I fall
Is where I land.

Off I go.
Where I fall
Is where I land.

Ahhhhhhh....

Off I go.
Where I fall
Is where I land.

Off I go.
Where I fall
Is where I land.

All Is Love by Karen O and The Kids

Pardon me for being absent from this blog for such a long time. I had updated my personal blog about it. I once mentioned in my personal blog that I really like Where the Wild Things Are including the soundtrack. So here I am.

All Is Love by Karen O & The Kids is my personal favourite soundtrack in the movie. It was so joyful and happy. The voice of the kids was so cheerful and innocent. A beautiful piece of music which can easily represent the basic, childishness of love.

It totally captures the movie so well. It matches the scene in the movie perfectly. I just can’t describe in words. You just have to watch the movie and feel it yourself.

The lyric was very simple. Only have 3 paragraphs but that’s all it needs.

One, two, ready, go
Grow some big feet, holes in history
Is where you’ll find me, is where you’ll find
All is love, is love, is love, is love

L.O.V.E, it’s a mystery
Where you’ll find me, where you’ll find
All is Love, is love, is love, is love

Hey, ooh
Hey, ooh
Ooh ooh…
All is Love

One, two, ready, go
L.O.V.E, it’s a mystery
Where you’ll find me, where you’ll find
All is love, is love, is love, is love

Ooh ooh…
All is Love, is love, is love, is love…
