This Empty Northern Hemisphere was released by Gregory Alan Isakov in 2009. I actually accidentally stumble upon his music when i was surfing a video clip in vimeo and I was instantly hooked by the song.
He was originated from Johannesburg, South Africa. He is an indie folk rock singer. His music have a hints of influences from Leonard Cohen, a Canadian poet-singer songwriter which sang the amazing ‘Hallelujah’ which later covered by a lot of famous artist.
And also the influence of an American singer songwriter, Iron & Wine. If you watched Twilight before, the ending scene where Edward and Bella was dancing inside a gazebo the background song was sang by this singer called, Flightless Bird, American Mouth.
He had already released four album, Rust Colored Stones (2003), Songs for October (2005), That Sea, The Gambler (2007) and This Empty Northern Hemisphere (2009).
I only managed to get his latest album. I have been trying to search for his pervious three album but to no avail. I even try to find the source in pirate bay but the result come back as nil. Is so frustrating!
Anyway, my favourite song from this album is Dandelion Wine. Which is so soothing and relaxing. The whole song sound like you’re actually listening to a very vintage radio.
And below is the clip that I mention above which I totally adore it. I think the song and the video was perfectly matched. of course the original song was longer than 1.24mins which you can listen at here with lyric.
My another favourite from this album is If I go, I’m Goin but too bad I can’t find any clips in youtube. But if you wanna listen to it you can click here, the official site of Gregory Alan Isakov to listen.
