Sweet Dream by Greg Laswell

Ok, here is another song by Greg Laswell, Sweet Dream from the album Three Flights from Alto Nido. I have been listening to Greg Laswell albums for the past few days and I told myself I have to blog about this song. I need to.

cover

The album Three Flights From Alto Nido is a sickening album from Greg Laswell. Sickening as in sickening good! All the tracks in this album are worth to listen. And this particular song is wicked! Because I was instantly hooked on it when I first heard it and since had been keep on repeating for days. Not to mention this song is extremely short. Just over 1.10 minute long.

At first I thought I was some sort of midi or a demo of a certain song that Laswell couldn’t finish writing it and decided to add it in the album just for fun. But later on I found out that it is not. This song was complete. He himself commented that he tried to write more versus in but can’t because nothing is good enough for the song.

The lyric is pretty amazing. Short but sweet and heart warming. I can almost feel the warmth of the summer sun in my fluffy bed when I heard the part that sings

“And the morning would be so cruel
When it came
With sunshine and warmth to bring
For announcing the end of my sweet dream
For announcing the end of my sweet dream”

It always gave me this kind of image in my mind that I was fast asleep in my bed and the warmth summer sunlight slip through the curtain and as like the sun is gently kissing me on the cheek. Welcoming a new day in my life as the dandelions were at full blossom.

If I could write out my own dream
For the next time that I sleep
You'd be the first one that I see
And I the last one that you keep
The dream would go on and on
While we sway
Against all things thrown our way
And the morning would be so cruel
When it came
With sunshine and warmth to blame
For announcing the end of my sweet dream
For announcing the end of my sweet dream

Off I Go by Greg Laswell

Anyone who read my blog should by now know that I’m a huge fan of Grey’s Anatomy. I have re-watch the shows over and over again for so many times that I lost track already. For me this is one of the most amazing American shows that I watch. I just can’t describe how much I love this show with word. All I can says is I really really love this show a lot.

greys-anatomy-cast-season-3

Besides, I get to know a lot of artistes, songs from this shows. Most of the songs in this shows were incredible. The production team really make one helluva job with the music. Every time, it just seems like all the songs in the show was custom made to fit that particular scenes. Often time, it touches me. I have cried so many time through  out the entire 5 seasons because it was so sad and so real. And some of the episodes in the show I just felt like I really can connect to it.

grey__s_anatomy_season_finale_by_niestereotypowa

And over this 5 seasons, I guess most of the GA fans will agree with me that season 5 finale was the saddest finale. It left me speechless, stunned. The first time I saw it, I just sat there starring at my screen for around 5 seconds after it ends. It totally blew my mind. Especially, the part where the elevator door open and George was standing right there. The music at the back fit that scene 101%! Period.

GregPrimary

That particular song was Off I Go by Greg Laswell. As I was saying earlier that I just felt like all the songs was custom made to fit this show. Well, apparently the producer of GA really did requested Laswell to write a song especially for this finale scene. Thus, the birth of this song.

I think I shall post the finale scene below and let you guys watch it. The song only start at 2.34min.

Loose ends, they tangle down
And then take flight
But never tie me down
Never tie me down.

Loose ends, they tangle down
And then take flight
But never tie me down
Never tie me down.

Off I go.
Where I fall
Is where I land.

Off I go.
Where I fall.
Is where I land.

Loose ends tangle down
And then take flight
But never tie us down
And never tie us down.

Loose ends tangle down
And then take flight
But never tie us down
And never tie us down.

Off I go.
Where I fall
Is where I land.

Off I go.
Where I fall
Is where I land.

Ahhhhhhh....

Off I go.
Where I fall
Is where I land.

Off I go.
Where I fall
Is where I land.

All Is Love by Karen O and The Kids

Pardon me for being absent from this blog for such a long time. I had updated my personal blog about it. I once mentioned in my personal blog that I really like Where the Wild Things Are including the soundtrack. So here I am.

All Is Love by Karen O & The Kids is my personal favourite soundtrack in the movie. It was so joyful and happy. The voice of the kids was so cheerful and innocent. A beautiful piece of music which can easily represent the basic, childishness of love.

It totally captures the movie so well. It matches the scene in the movie perfectly. I just can’t describe in words. You just have to watch the movie and feel it yourself.

The lyric was very simple. Only have 3 paragraphs but that’s all it needs.

One, two, ready, go
Grow some big feet, holes in history
Is where you’ll find me, is where you’ll find
All is love, is love, is love, is love

L.O.V.E, it’s a mystery
Where you’ll find me, where you’ll find
All is Love, is love, is love, is love

Hey, ooh
Hey, ooh
Ooh ooh…
All is Love

One, two, ready, go
L.O.V.E, it’s a mystery
Where you’ll find me, where you’ll find
All is love, is love, is love, is love

Ooh ooh…
All is Love, is love, is love, is love…

Let it be me by Ray Lamontagne

Let it be me is one of my favourite song by Ray Lamontagne in his third released Gossip In the Grain album. As commented from his web site, this album ‘proves to be his most creative and emotionally expansive collection to date.’ Well, I certainly can’t argue with that. Perhaps, his music had mature over the years.

album

I just can’t tell you how soothing, relaxing and amazing Ray voice is. You just have to listen it yourself. And this song is breath taking. Almost anyone can relate to this song, whether a friend, a lover or family member. It is very comforting. As long as there is someone special in your heart, you pretty much can relate to it. No doubt about that.

6a00e553c619b0883301156f89afba970c-500wi

I still remember the first time I heard this song it gave me chill spine. I was like “woah!!! this is amazing! this man got soul.” Every time, when I heard this song it gave me this warmth feeling and make me kinda wish to have someone by my side. Cuddle in the couch and just simply enjoy each other companion in silent. Or hugs together and dance slowly. Melting into each other embrace. Too bad that special one still does not exist in my life right now. How sad ):

This song is pretty straight forward or self-explanatory. The meaning is simple and clear. Yet, it was beautiful and soulful.

There comes a time,
A time in everyone's life
When nothing seems to go your way,
When nothing seems to turn out right

There may come a time,
You just can't seem to find your place
For every door you open,
Seems like you get two slammed in your face

That's when you need someone,
Someone that you, you can call.
When all your faith is gone,
It feels like you can't go on

Let it be me
Let it be me
If it's a friend that you need
Let it be me
Let it be me

Feels like you're always comin' up last
Pockets full of nothin' ain't got no cash
No matter where you turn
You ain't got no place to stand
You reach out for somethin' and they slap your hand

I remember all too well
Just how it feels to be all alone
To feel like you'd give anything
For just a little place you can call your own

That's when you need someone,
Someone that you, you can call
When all your faith is gone
It feels like you can't go on

Broken Strings (Acoustic Version)

Acoustic is one of my favourite genre by far. It was like a fresh breath after listening to so many pop songs. Not saying that the original version is  bad. Just that sometimes, after listening to the original version so many times and when an acoustic version comes around you suddenly realize that ‘hey, acoustic ain’t that bad. Is quite good’.

James Morrison-Songs For You, Truths For Me [Front]

This is what happens when I listen to acoustic version of Broken Strings. To be honest this is my least favourite songs in James Morrison latest album, Songs for you, Truth for me. Even though, it is the second single for this album but somehow this track do not caught my attention. Or maybe I just don’t think that the voice of Nelly Furtado do not match James Morrison hoarse voice. Personally, I think it is more like a marketing gimmick considering that Nelly Furtado was a huge success in 2006 after her “Loose” album. Ever since then a lot of artist have featured her in their songs. Well, I guess they should find other female artist to collaborate with him.

broken strings

Of course, I’m not saying that James Morrison is a lousy singer. Is quite the opposite actually. James Morrison is a fantastic musician. The whole album was fabulous. There isn’t a bad track on this album at all. ( I just don’t like broken strings, not saying it is a bad track). Songs for you, Truth for me is one of my top 10 album that I listened to in my itunes. 10 out of the 12 tracks in this album is in my top 100 tracks out of my total 2354 songs and counting…

broken strings

Anyway, the lyric is so intense for this songs. It was so true, so raw, so real. And straight forward. Is totally about a dying love but somehow both parties still wishes that there is something left to salvage. Though, the girl betrayed the guy.

Well, obviously I prefer the acoustic version since I don’t like Nelly voice in this song. But, this is a song that required 2 singers to sing so of course the intensity in the acoustic version is lacking is compare to the original version.

Let me hold you
For the last time
It's the last chance to feel again
But you broke me
Now I can't feel anything

When I love you,
It's so untrue

I can't even convince myself
When I'm speaking,
It's the voice of someone else

Oh it tears me up
I try to hold on, but it hurts too much
I try to forgive, but it's not enough to make it all okay

You can't play on broken strings
You can't feel anything that your heart don't want to feel
I can't tell you something that ain't real

Oh the truth hurts
And lies worse
How can I give anymore
When I love you a little less than before

Oh what are we doing
We are turning into dust
Playing house in the ruins of us

Running back through the fire
When there's nothing left to save
It's like chasing the very last train when it's too late

Oh it tears me up
I try to hold on, but it hurts too much
I try to forgive, but it's not enough to make it all okay

You can't play on broken strings
You can't feel anything that your heart don't want to feel
I can't tell something that ain't real

Well the truth hurts,
And lies worse
How can I give anymore
When I love you a little less than before

But we're running through the fire
When there's nothing left to save
It's like chasing the very last train
When we both know it's too late (too late)

You can't play on broken strings
You can't feel anything that your heart don't want to feel
I cant tell you something that ain't real

Well truth hurts,
And lies worse
How can I give anymore
When I love you a little less than before

Details in The Fabric by Jason Mraz

This is one of the songs from Jason Mraz newest album, We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things. Well, I don’t think I need to introduce for this album anymore after the huge sensation over I’m Yours and Lucky. Almost everyone know how to sing these two song and it is one of the must sing song in karaoke.

We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things Cover

The thing is, for most of the people that who do not owned the whole album definitely have no ideas about other songs in this album. There were other songs in the album that is worth listening to. One of the song is Details in The Fabric. This is a great song collaborate between two great musician Jason Mraz and James Morrison. ‘Details in The Fabric’ also known as ‘Sewing Machine’. I have no idea why there were two name for a single song.

Personally, I think this is a song about moving on after a break up. Well, just read the lyric below first and I will tell you why.

Calm down Deep breaths
And get yourself dressed

Instead Of running around
And pulling all your threads saying
Breaking yourself up

This part I think is kind of obvious. The persona just experience a break up and the song sings that to calm down and pull yourself up together rather than panic or feeling helpless and hopeless and pulling your hair while having a emotional break down (crying).

If it's a broken part, replace it
But, if it's a broken arm then brace it
If it's a broken heart then face it

If, it is a faulty machine you can fix it or replace it. If, is a broken arm you can wrap it, heal it. But if is a broken heart, you just have to face it, accept it.

And hold your own
Know your name
And go your own way

Hold your own

Know your own name
And go your own way

And everything will be fine
Everything will be fine

Always remember to not lost yourself while in a relationship. Remember not to put others before yourself. Pull yourself together and live the life even though it seems like a bumpy road. And you shall be fine. Everything will be fine eventually.

Mmmhmm

Hang on
Help is on the way
Stay strong
I'm doing everything

Obviously, it meant a friend or someone who cared about the persona is coming to stay/to chat with you. To get you through this painful break up.

Hold your own
Know your name
And go your own way

Hold your own
Know your name
And go your own way

And everything, everything will be fine
Everything

Are the details in the fabric
Are the things that make you panic
Are your thoughts results of static cling?

Are the things that make you blow
Hell, no reason, go on and scream
If you're shocked it's just the fault
Of faulty
manufacturing.

The bed that you once shared with your loved ones. Or the future that you planned together or missing the love ones while memories of her replay in you mind. Or break down while thinking of her. Just remember all the depression or anger is not your fault as is it your heart that is hurting.

Yeah everything will be fine
Everything in no time at all
Everything

Hold your own
And know your name
And go your own way

Are the details in the fabric (Hold your own, know your name)
Are the things that make you panic
Are your thoughts results of static cling? (Go your own way)

Are the details in the fabric (Hold your own, know your name)
Are the things that make you panic (Go your own way)
Is it Mother Nature's sewing machine?

Are the things that make you blow (Hold your own, know your name)
Hell no reason go on and scream
If you're shocked it's just the fault (Go your own way)
Of faulty manufacturing

Everything will be fine
Everything in no time at all
Hearts will hold

This is a pretty straightforward song. What amazing is how Jason Mraz and James Morrison managed to pull this song verbally and melodically is beyond words. It really have me in so many different level of emotion.

Enjoy :)

 Front

Naming the album after her break-through song, I Dreamed A Dream which she sang in Britain’s Got Talent. Well, got to say that her dream definitely comes true. It was a successful launched on 23rd November 2009 which break numerous chart record since then. Is a 12-tracks album…click to listen.

6. Daydream Believer

7. Up to the Mountain

8. Amazing Grace

10. Proud

11. The End of World

The first single from this album is “Wild Horses” a cover originally sang by Rolling Stones. Boy, I must said her vocal is so powerful and emotional. I’m loving it. Her voice is remarkably incredible.

This is an album one should not miss if you like vocal or traditional pop genres . All the songs were beautifully sung. My personal favourite were Wild Horses, Cry Me a River, How Great Thou Art and of course I Dreamed a Dream.

I’m officially categorizing this album in the my Lullaby playlist in my itunes. Don’t get me wrong, is not because it is boring to listen. Is because her voice is so soothing and comfortable to listen to. Just brilliant!

For Emma, Forever Ago

For Emma, Forever Ago was released by Bon Iver in February 2008. However, it was first self-released by the band in 2007. The band was formed by Justin Vernon an American singer-songwriter which mostly focus in Indie-folk genres.

For emma, forever ago

It was absolutely a stunning album and pretty impressive considering this is the first album they released. All the songs in the album were pretty neat and mostly presented in a acoustic way. Thus, making it sound so pure, clean and peaceful while the voice of Justin Vernon totally polished all the songs.

bon iver

In some miraculous way, every time when I listened to this album it calmed me. His voice has this kind of power to let you put down all your works in your hand and just listen to his songs. Quietly enjoying the night. Suddenly, you will realize solitude isn’t that bad after all.

bon iver guitar

I guess anyone who likes Damien Rice who definitely found this album worth for every penny. I loves all the songs in this album but there were two songs which I simply adore. It was Blindsided and Skinny love.

Oh, there was one song in New Moon which was sang by Bon Iver & St. Vincet called, Roslyn which is also tremendously beautiful and it fit the scene perfectly. The scene where Edward and Bella meets in front of Bella’s house right before they breakup.

Happenstance

Happenstance was the first album released by Rachael Yamagata on June 4, 2004. Yeap, I know it was 5 years ago which seem ages away. As most of my friends mostly will laugh at me when I told them I’m still listening to a certain songs that was released years ago.

Rachael Yamagata-Happenstance [Front]

Because for them, they only listen to the hits that keep playing in the airwaves. Which most of the songs are a bunch of crap that contain meaningless lyric. Can’t blame them actually, as they were heavily influenced by the corporate artiste and not artist.

rachael-yamagata-

According to wikipedia she is a Yonsei, the fourth generation Japanese American. She is a singer-songwriter and pianist. She launched two album, one in 2004 and another one in 2008, titled Elephants….Teeth Sinking into Heart.

I prefer her second album better though. Not saying Happenstance is less better. It still a brilliant album to listen. Basically, I like the whole album but there were quite a few songs which I found it suit my preference much more better like Quiet, Ode to…,Meet Me by The River, Even, Reason Why and I’ll find a Way.

One of her song, Be Be Your Love was once covered by a Taiwanese/Chinese singer. Is a Mandarin version of Be Be Your Love. But I had forget who sang it.

Below is my favourite song from this album. It was so beautiful. When I listen to it, it gave me a sense of tranquility. It reminds me someone I loved deeply years ago.

Lyric of Quiet by Rachael Yamagata.

Baby says I can't come with him

And I had read all of this in his eyes

Long before he even said so

Why go, I asked

You know and I know why

And it'll be just as quiet when I leave

As it was when I first got here

I don't expect anything

I don't expect anything

Take care

I've been hurt before

Too much time spend on closing doors

You may hate me, but I'll remember to love you

Goodbye

Don't cry

You know why

And it'll be just as quiet when I leave

As it was when I first got here

I don't expect anything

I don't expect anything

All the waves of blame arrange as broken scenery

As they steal your best memories away

What if I was someone different in your only history?

Would you feel the same

As I walk out the door

Never to see your face again

Never to see your face again

And it'll be just as quiet when I leave

As it was when I first got here

It'll be just as quiet when I leave

As it was when I first got here

I don't expect anything

I don't expect anything

I don't expect anything

I don't expect anything

I don't expect anything

I don't expect anything to change when I leave

Snow Patrol: Up to Now

I first heard of Snow Patrol was when I was watching Grey’s Anatomy and there was this scene where “Chasing Car” was played as the background music. Then after I heard their breakthrough single “Run” which later covered by Leona Lewis. I knew this is one of the band that I’m going to list under my top 5 favourite rock band.

snow patrol

Up to Now is the newest album from Snow Patrol which was released in 6th November 2009. It is a collection of songs that spanning over fifteen years of Snow Patrol music career. With two disc album featuring 30 tracks. However, this is a collection of the band’s most favourite songs over the course of their entire music career, not the greatest hits. Which the lead vocal of Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody quoted "Calling it a greatest hits album would be a bit grandiose."

Up To Now

There were actually three new singles released in this album including the forthcoming single “Just say Yes”.

snow-patrol-concert

Personally, I really like the live version of “Run” and “Chasing Car'” in the album. Especially “Run” as it sound more darker, gothic style.

And little did I know that Snow Patrol actually did a cover of Beyonce’s Crazy In Love. I hate to say this but it sound really really weird when Snow Patrol sang this song espeically the part "Uh-o Uh-o”. It remind me of slaughtering chicken. Perhaps, maybe I’m used to the Beyonce version.

Anyway, those who are fans or like of Snow Patrol should really go and get this album as it worth every penny spent.
